General Manager

General Summary of Job


Our General Managers are responsible for ensuring a fun, safe, and loving place for our guests, their pets, and our crew members. Our general managers are the faces of each of our locations and should hold themselves as true leaders and ambassadors of our brand. Our general managers work alongside each crew member to ensure a team environment and sense of productivity and professionalism that we strive for. Our general managers must be customer service rock stars, we are dealing with people and their most precious fur-babies. 

Primary Duties 

  • Oversee recruiting, interviewing and hiring in accordance with employment laws/company procedures and proper documentation of new crew member files.
  • Create front of house schedules and approve kennel managers schedule
  • Run and monitor weekly payroll in coordination with franchise support manager
  • Employ The Ark University, crew training program to ensure all crew complete training and follow up training throughout their employment at The Ark.
  • Monitors overall company performance to goals set 
for the crew
  • Coordinates priorities and monitors progress 

  • Takes steps as needed to ensure all crew members meet commitments 

  • Ensures good communication flow throughout business (management, crew & guests) 

  • Resolve resource conflicts as needed 

  • Ensure resources, tools, structures & systems are in place for business operations to 
function without management presence 


  • Assist in company special projects 

  • Develop new service ideas & implement to maintain leadership position in industry 

  • Manage capital projects 

  • Proactively supports company mission statement and customer service standards
  • Employ and maintain operating procedures for assigned services areas 

  • Manage facility and personnel ensuring client and animal care services are provided in 
compliance with company procedures 
  • Recommend increases as circumstances warrant to established rates & fees
  • Recommend changes as needed to established client policies and monitor for 
effectiveness. 

  • Monitor crew performance related to execution of service to expectations.
  • Oversee performance of new crew & annual performance reviews.
  • Ensure corrective action is performed as necessary, is done as per Handbook and properly documented with separation notice or corrective action form.
  • Monitor occupancy and service growth rates in assigned service areas 

  • Identify slow periods &/or downturns and coordinate with marketing to feature service 
and/or modify policies & procedures to turn around performance 
  • Employ new programs related to service area as needed or appropriate & coordinate 
marketing plans w/ manager 
  • Handle client service issue escalations in a manner that maintains company’s reputation 
  • Set area goals to support overall business goals and initiate changes to rectify shortfalls 


Minimum Experience, Skills, Certification or Academic Background Required
  • Reliable transportation
  • High school graduate with some college preferred 

  • Excellent oral & good written communication skills 

  • Previous work experience demonstrating dependability 
2+ years experience supervising crew 

  • 2+ years work experience in animal care industry preferred 

  • Self-motivated, independent worker with attention to detail 

  • Proven leadership and training skills 

  • Ability to work in a team environment 

  • Good decision and problem solving skills 

  • Good organization and planning skills 

  • Demonstrated flexibility and proven coping skills 

  • Good background and reference checks

Front Desk Crew

General Summary of Job

The front desk crew is responsible for customer service, reservations, retail inventory, processing invoice and payments, processing check ins and administrative duties in support of these functions. Additionally, they are responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the reception, retail, and lobby area, The front desk crew reports to the general manger or the lead front desk crew member. 

Minimum Experience, Skill, Certifications

  • High school graduate is preferred
  • 1+ of customer service experience 
  • Point of sale or cash register management skill
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Proven humane pet handling skills
  • Previous work experience demonstrating dependability 
  • Self motivated

Kennel Crew

General Summary of Job

The kennel crew is responsible for the supervision, control, and management of daycare pets and ensuring the safety of the playgroup. The kennel crew will also be assigned care of other animals boarding at the facility, Additionally, the kennel crew is responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the playrooms, play yards, as well as other areas of the facility as assigned. The kennel crew works under the supervision of the kennel manager and reports to the kennel manager.
